How to get more active in the EIS
There are loads of ways of becoming a more active member of the EIS. I've listed some of the ways you can make a difference below, and don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like more information:
- Becoming an EIS Rep. Reps are the backbone of any trade union and the EIS is always looking for enthusiastic people who would like the opportunity to stand up for our members. Reps are given time-off work for trade union duties and full training is provided. This is a great way of developing your skills, and getting to know school colleagues better.
- Becoming an EIS Contact. If you'd like to get involved but don't want to become a rep just yet, you might be perfect as an EIS contact. Contacs work alongside reps to help distribute information about the EIS, as well as spreading the word if we're involved in a campaign and need support from our members.
- Becoming an EIS Student Organiser. The EIS has a huge number of student members across Scotland. I would like to get these members more active in the union and I need your help! I'm looking for individuals who would like to help organise EIS events, debates, meetings and advice sessions. We sponsor student events too, so I need someone who can let me know what's happening in universities.
- Small steps. If you don't want to get as involved as the options above, you can still make a difference to the union. The EIS runs a number of campaigns to improve terms and conditions of teachers in Scotland, and just by signing a petition or completing a survey, you are contributing to the cause. Keep checking this website for more information on ongoing campaigns.
If you would like more information on any of the points above, please get in touch!
